Windy City Romance
Struggling young artist, Colin McBride, seeks the meaning of life in this magical tale about a haunted mall, hormonal hi-jinx and the importance of random acts of kindness. Running from childhood angst, Colin finds himself in the big city - stalled in a dead end job and blocked artistically at a local frame shop. Chicago's noisy streets and clubs provide loads of fun, but little inspiration. Only his beloved Century Mall provides the solace necessary to keep him sane. There he meets George, a sweet, old contractor who helped build the mall over 60 years ago and who may or may not be what he appears to be. George is drawn to the mall himself, not only for nostalgia sake, but for Colin's warm, funny and gentle soul. Colin is haunted, literally, by lost love in the form of the curvaceous and catty Amy - a red headed motormouth who just needs to go away. He is led most of the time blindly, by his scheme-driven pal Rick Van Deusen - a guard at the mall, from one racy adventure to another. Despite big laughs and jokes shared between the two chums, the good times begin unraveling one night after a lewd encounter at a cheerleading tryout. Rick walks away ecstatic while Colin's emptiness deepens. The perfect person for his perfect recipe turns out to be none other than Rick's Polish-American girlfriend, Karen Dombrowsky - an earthly, talented beauty who is herself frustrated with the cards life seems to be dealing her. Slowly but surely, the two discover each other's feeling after Karen recruits Colin's assistance for her disaster-bound theatrical production. Through is all, Rick remains oblivious . . . or is he? Surely Colin's artistic and romantic solutions don't include art fraud, following trails of candy mix and falling in love with his best friend's girl - or do they? How can three close friends find themselves in an unexpected love triangle and still end up with a "win-win" situation? And, as George suggests, is the mall indeed a blessed place capable of providing the answers? If Colin can only tap into the powers that be, maybe he will finally shake the past and get on with a new, rejuvenated life - one leading down the road to true happiness. Come snack on magic, love and destiny at the Century's end.
